The Johannes Schuetze Group, which has been successful as a procurement optimizer in the energy sector with a unique bundling concept, has been dealing with energy import models for a long time. While municipal utilities are traditionally the partners for tenders as part of the bundling concept, the previous procurement business model was expanded to include the target group of municipal utilities in 2021.
With the potential of the procurement volume for municipal utilities, the strategic area of gas import, established parallel to the previous core business of the Johannes Schuetze Group, could be pursued with great consistency. Not as a direct competitor to the majors, but in areas of gas sourcing that have not previously been the focus, but play an important role at the latest under the new conditions of the energy crisis caused by the war. It is also about innovative, decentralized projects that are made for the flexibility and unconventional way of thinking of a medium-sized company like the Johannes Schuetze Group. It is also about regions in the world that have not previously been among Germany's classic trading partners.
In the context of the outbreak of war between Russia and Ukraine, in addition to our activities in other regions of the world, possible sources of supply for natural gas in Nigeria were identified and discussions were sought with responsible authorities. On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, the exchange was further discussed and followed up at the Nigeria International Partnership Forum in September 2022. One of the special features is that the planned LNG volumes would involve large quantities of so-called “associated gas”, which has so far been flared. The detailed planning is at an advanced stage and an MoU was signed on the sidelines of the “G20 Investment Summit 2023 – Compact with Africa” conference in the presence of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in November 2023.

“Anyone who deals with gas imports today, in addition to experience, must also have great innovative strength in order to open up new paths and import regions. A path that Johannes Schuetze is consistently pursuing.”
